海宁皮革产业起步于1970年代末，从个体皮匠、小作坊逐步发展。1994年海宁中国皮革城建成开业，成为中国皮革业龙头市场。2005年皮革城整体搬迁至新城。历经三十余年发展，从单一皮衣生产向皮革时尚、皮草、箱包、软装等多领域延伸。2025年海宁皮革、海宁家纺两大区域品牌双双入选全国唯一“双品牌”。
